Access & Inclusion

The Queer Friendships project aims to be as accessible and welcoming as possible.

This is a self-funded project, and I manage the photoshoots, communication, and organisation myself. I am committed to doing my best to support different needs, and I appreciate you letting me know what would help you feel comfortable.

Accessibility is an ongoing process, and I am always open to learning and adapting where I can.

If you have any specific access requirements or questions, please get in touch as early as possible before your session so I can plan ahead with you.

If you have any questions about accessibility, please email me at info@queerfriendships.com.

Physical access

We hold sessions in various locations. Please note that some current temporary locations (such as Pride Fest) are not wheelchair accessible and require climbing stairs.

We are planning future sessions in fully accessible locations. If you require a wheelchair-accessible space, please let me know in your registration form and I will prioritise contacting you for those dates.

Photoshoot info

  • Sessions are small and calm, lasting approximately 20 minutes.
  • You are welcome to take breaks at any time.
  • A support person, family member, or friend is always welcome to join you.
  • I will provide clear guidance throughout the session to help you feel comfortable.

On the day, I am usually assisted, but not always, and may be managing multiple parts of the shoot. I will do my best to support you while balancing this, and you are always welcome to let me know if you need something in the moment.

Environment

  • We aim to create a calm, low-pressure environment with minimal distractions.
  • We do not play loud music during sessions.
  • We avoid harsh or flashing lights where possible. However, studio flash will be used during the photoshoot. The flash is very brief (less than a second), but it will occur multiple times.

If the use of studio flash is something that may affect you, please let me know in advance and we can discuss options together.

Communication

  • I will provide clear information about what to expect before your session.
  • If you need information in a different format, or if anything is unclear, please let me know.
  • During the session, I will check in with you where possible to make sure you feel comfortable.

When filling out the form, you are welcome to share anything you feel comfortable sharing. This helps me prepare and support you better.
